More On Andro And Rage

Consumer Review: I Come From A Very Wealthy Background In Houston, Texas Where Football Is Seen As A Way Of Life, Where Winning Is Driven Into Your Mind Everyday.
I'm writing to you because I believe there is a severe problem with the use of the supplement Androstene and its negative effects on teenagers and young adults.

I am 17 years old and go through daily weight training, sprinting, and various football workouts. As a starting high school quarterback in a 5A Texas school, being strong and having power is not an option, it's expected. I have taken Androstene for a month now at 200mg a day. The effects have been astounding. I have increased my bench by 15%, squat by20%, and power clean by 30%.

I know that people, in response to the supplement, have complained about moodiness and strange attitudes, but I can assure you that the problems do not stop there. Lately, I have suffered from extremely violent mood swings and back problems due to torn muscles. I come from a very wealthy background in Houston, Texas where football is seen as a way of life, where winning is driven into your mind everyday. I have been so out of whack with reality due to "Andro" that earlier this week my mom and I had an argument and I had to stop myself from hitting her in the face. My girlfriend has noticed my continuous sullen mood and aggression also. I repeatedly burst into tears of frustration when things do not go perfectly, and am constantly on the edge if someone makes me angry.

Use of this supplement is not a joking matter. It needs to be well supervised and controlled. I wish to warn all of those young athletes out there who want to get strong quickly that research of this supplement is required and that winning is not important if it means killing your body and the people around you. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
C. A.

I was just curious as to whether or not you had any emotional problems before beginning the Andro. I would just like to know if you attribute your mood swings and other problems solely to the suplement?

Well, first off...you shouldn't be using ANY andro products. WHY?? Because, you are only 17...if you would have done your research before using andro, you would have read that andro is only intended for "mature" adults. By "mature" that means a person that is finished growing. And males usually stop the growing process around 18 years old.

After you have finished growing, your testosterone levels decrease. That is why it is for people over the age of 18. Since, you're 17 your testosterone levels should be high enough already. You don't need andro to jack the levels up any more than they already are.

Hi, I am an 18 year old male and I just read your article and I thought it was interesting because I just started to use andro along with creatine when my football season started up. I have noticed huge differences in my endurance and strength during football practice. I first questioned my use andro when I read about all of the negative aspects of the supplement, especially the mood swings. I noticed my temper getting short quickly after my first few times using andro.

My mother even commented on it (she doesn't know about me using it) and asked if anything was wrong. However, I have now used this short temper to my advantage during my season. So what I've been trying to say is just that I am now happy with the effects of andro but you must be cautious as with any supplement.

Good for you, C.A.! I hope you get the message across to a lot of people. Taking dietary supplements, or even steroids, is good for the body, IF you need it. Unfortunately, most of the people taking dietary supplements or "enhancement" supplements these days are using it incorrectly. As for ANY chemical entity that you take into your body, you need to treat it as a DRUG and consult your doctor or pharmacist. Just because it's not labeled as a drug by the FDA doesn't mean it's not harmful. I'm a pharmacy intern and I've done a lot of research on herbal products, dietary supplements, and anabolic steroids. They CAN cause irreversible organ damage. Please let the people around you know that dietary supplements, ESPECIALLY anabolic steroids, should not be taken chronically.

Well C.A. I have just graduated from a place called Plano, Texas. We are a very wealthy city money has never been a problem. We are a 5A district team and I can relate to the wining circle. Our schools are considered POWER HOUSES. We have won State Championships more years than I have been alive. Losing is never an option. I played soccer, baseball, football, and a little hockey. I was the Captain of the soccer team and captain of our Plano All-Star Baseball team. I received "Honorable Mention" at high school and the best "all around athlete" for baseball. We were State runner-ups and the year before "Back to Back" State Champs. I understand the temptations and the desire to win. Our coaches left us no room for error. Our districts were hard and once out of the districts we had to start playing other big school teams like Klein, Klein Oak, George Town, San Antonio Church Hill, etc. You know what? I did all of that with out Andro or any other supplement.

I have recently been made "freshman of the year" at my college. I have also made the NCAA Southwest Conference, ASC All-Conference team. I am currently a freshman, and for a freshman that is unheard of to make All-Conference teams. It has been an exciting year for me but I needed to make changes. I only weighed 150 at the end of the soccer year at my college. I got pushed around quite a bit. Coach wanted changes and results. I have started Andro and Creatine, Protein and Glutamine. I have seen unbelievable results. I now way 165 in a matter of a months, and I'm benching 25 more lbs than my weight. It has been very noticeable and people are just amazed and I constantly get told how big I have gotten. I haven't gotten huge but very defined and puffy. I also say that I'm going to stop, but that is hard because I have found that I am not happy yet. I have to have more and have to get bigger and want to make myself happy and my girlfriend. But that's not always the right way I have come to realize.

Unfortunately, the other most important thing to me is my girlfriend. She has seen me play and been here for me in times that I have really needed her. She has noticed some changes and we have talked about the outcomes and if this is really necessary. Well, she says she's happy with the way I look and me being cut, but the mood swings and the emotional ups and downs are problems. I haven't had any real violent reactions to her and do not ever plan to, but I understand how it can affect your relationship and how your relationship is more important than getting bigger.

Last thing I can add is wait til you're physically able to get to the maturity levels that your body will allow you to have. There's no reason to rush the process. I respect your comments and the advice. I will continue to take it until I'm out, but after I'm out, its over. No more for me, just all natural.

A.W.

I am currently doing research into the stresses associated with gaining a scholarship through sports to gain entry into a university. We don't have a system like yours in the UK, and I am interested as to the motivations behind your desire to succeed. Do you feel that supplements are the only answer in gaining entrance to the college of your choice? Have your parents or coaches supported your decision? Would you ever consider taking steroids as a last resort? If you feel as though you would like to talk about these issues, then please e-mail me at DanielGlew@hotmail.com.

I don't believe anyone under 20 should or would really need to take any kind of andro product. It's a good way to throw your already raging hormones out of whack. I've done a few cycles with real juice and all it did was make me bitchy. That's with the quick temper I already have. Maybe you just used the andro as an excuse to express how you really feel about your parents.

If you don't want psychoactive side effects, then don't take a steroid (legal or otherwise). Simple, huh? People ignorant as to the effects of such products should stay far away. It grows tiresome to see the actions of the ignorant, such as those who are 17 and take andro products, cause the government to interfere with the right to use supplements by individuals who are educated on the product they are taking and go to certain lengths to ensure that they are getting what the label claims.
