Androstenedione

Question: What Is The Difference Between 5-Androstenedione, Androstenedione, and 19-Nor-Androstenedione?
What is the difference between 5-androstenedione, androstenedione, androstene, and 19-nor-androstenedione? Which is the best to take?

Do you recommend taking 5-androstenedione and 19-nor-androstenedione together? If so, why?

Does androstenedione, 5-androstenedione, or 19-nor-androstenedione sometimes produce too much testosterone, which produce's the female hormone estrogen? Is this a bad thing for a male?

What are the side effects of these products?

If you can answer please do.
Thanks very much

Question expanded by another reader.
My husband has recently purchased 4-Androstene-3 17-Dione. What is the honest truth about this stuff i.e. side effects and are there any long term studies? Where can I go to get info on this? I'm trying to get him to stop using it and need solid facts!

Thanks,
Sherry

All of these things are precursors to male hormones, namely testosterone and nortestosterone. The 5-androstenedione and androstenedione are basically the same thing. They only differ in the displacement of a hydrogen on the carbon chain. They are both direct precursors to testosterone and are converted directly to testosterone after one pass through the liver. 19-nor-androstenedione is very similar except there is one less Carbon in the carbon chain (position 17), and one missing Hydrogen at position 19.

All of these supplements have been touted as being able to produce weight and strength gains. The androstenediones, like I said, are DIRECT precursors to testosterone, and some say have STEROID like effects. This means, if abused, they may also have steroid like SIDE-EFFECTS. We all know those: male pattern baldness, terrible acne, moodiness, aggressive behavior... As for 19-nor-androstenedione, since it doesn't ever turn into testosterone (it turns to nortestosterone), these side-effects only happen to a lesser degree, BUT THEY CAN STILL OCCUR.

People, including myself, have noticed gains in strength using 19-nor-androstenedione (I've never tried androstenedione because it looks too dangerous to me). As I've done more research on all of these products, being a scientist, I've realized that not enough LONG-TERM testing has been done to really say there are zero side effects like some of the supplement companies claim. I've come to realize that with proper training and diet you could equal, probably even surpass any chemical advantages, with ZERO side effects.

I appreciate your passing along of your knowledge. I recently started lifting ( two months ago ) and I instantly fell in love. Not with my gains but the amount of energy I have and the comments from my girlfriend well today I went out and bought 19 Nor-androstendione so hopefully I start seeing and enjoying my gains in size and not just the amount of weight I lift.
