Promusol

Question: Can You Give Me Some Insight Into Promusol?
I have recently read about a product by Advanced Sports Nutrition called Promusol. It contains Borametz Oil, and from reading the document that was with the advertisement it sounds pretty good. Can you give me some insight into this stuff?

Answer #1
I am writing in response to the question about Promusol or Pure Borametz oil from Russia. Apparently, there is no such thing as "Borametz oil extract". Tests have found that it is really a chemical called 1,4 butanediol. The Advanced Sports Nutrition Company no longer sells it because they had too many complaints about the product.

Response #1 To Answer #1
How did you determine that the active ingredient in Promusol is 1,4 Butanediol? Have tests shown that the active ingredient in Promusol is 1, 4 Butanediol, or do you just know someone who was involved in the manufacture of Promusol? Does anyone know for sure that the active ingredient in Promusol is 1,4 Butanediol, or is this discussion simply based on the assumption that the author of Answer 1 is correct in the statement that the active ingredient in Promusol is 1,4 Butanediol? Was the FDA involved in Promusol being pulled off of the market or did ASN make the decision unilaterally? Any chance of purchasing Promusol in Mexico or Europe?

Answer #2
Promusol was manufactured by Biopharma USA, a company which has the same telephone number as American Sports Nutrition - ASN simply doesn't want to discuss Promusol for some strange reason. Any information would be appreciated!

Answer #3
I'm responding to your question of why ASN probably doesn't want to talk about Promusol (aka 1,4-butanediol). I knew several people who used to take this product and they all quit complaining of severe kidney and liver pain along with respiratory problems. There have been numerous studies done on 1,4-butanediol. The only problem is that most of them are well hidden and hard to find and/or it is costly to order the studies. Unfortunately, the CDC study concerning the carcinogenic potential(lack of) for 1,4-butanediol is the only study that a lot of people know of.

I did a lot of research on this topic a couple years back and I could probably find the abstracts on some of the toxicity studies. To give you an overview though, most of them found that there was no carcinogenity, genetic mutation, and the lethal dose number was relatively high (around 10 g/kg for mice). Unfortunately, 1,4-butanediol has been shown to cause substantial kidney damage and some liver damage. Most of the tests indicate that 200-300 mg/kg/per day over even a couple of days of dosing would cause damage. Doses below this were inconclusive except for one study where 2 out of 7 human patients given 1,4-butanediol by enema at only 30 mg/kg/per day died over the 2 week test period. The other 5 recovered with some permanent kidney damage. Studies have been done on humans, mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits and almost every test that was done at 100 mg/kg or more per day resulted in kidney damage and liver damage. This is probably the reason that ASN pulled this and doesn't want to talk about it.

I personally don't like the way the FDA functions and I do believe that money and corruption is behind a lot of their motives, but I believe that ASN probably pulled this on their own after finding out about these studies. The shame of the whole matter is that there are several other long term studies that were done in the US and none of these studies are readily accessible without paying a substantial amount of money to look at them. I did see the results of a couple of them as well and they showed definite substantial kidney damage and liver damage in human subjects and animals, but to see the details you have to order the reports.

Response #1 To Answer #3
I would like to know more about the human studies, particularly since none of this sort can be found on Medline. Do you know who determined what the active ingredient is in Promusol or what test they used etc.?

Response #2 To Answer #3
The National Toxicology Program did a study of the toxicology of 1,4 Butanediol and found that since it was rapidly converted into GHB in the body the results would be the same as GHB -- no toxicity. From what I've know, it is my belief that any kidney or liver problems caused by products containing BDO are because of the impurity of the BDO used. BDO is an industrial chemical used to make things like polyurethane bumpers for cars. It is very hard to find high purity BDO that is safe to consume, even harder than finding high purity butyrolactone. I have a 1,4-Butanediol product, NeuroMod, now available to researchers. I recommend the book "GHB -- A Natural Mood Enhancer" by Ward Dean, MD, Steve Fowkes, and John Morganthaller.

Response #3 To Answer #3
Indeed, there are many people who live in states where GHB is now illegal and are now taking 1,4 Butanediol regularly with no apparent side-effects.

Was this human study that killed humans done in the US? This sounds like some Nazi experiment, pushing the test subjects until death.

I would love to see actual PROOF of this study, not just hearsay of it. Please provide documentation, or stop scaring the public.

Answer #4
I have been using 1,4-Butandiol for several months with no side affects. In reading what you have written, it scares the hell out of me. Then I get to thinking about it and I feel better than I ever have. Surely, my body would be telling me something is wrong? I'm a 35 years old, college educated, business owner.

Response #5 To Answer #3
I, too, have been using 1,4-Butanediol (in the form of 1,4-Tetramethylene Glycol) and have had marvelous results. Where can I find the studies that indicate severe kidney and liver damage? I take from 2-to-15 grams, by mouth, per day. If my math is correct and the human lethal study data is correct, I should have died some time ago. Yet, I feel better than I ever have. Does the fact that it was administered analy make a difference.

Also, are the toxic properties of 1,4-Butanediol different from GHB? Could the author of Answer #3 please respond to these concerns. I am working on a book about the subject, and would appreciate any information.

Thank you,
Peter M.

Response #2 To Answer #1
As previously asked by another person, does there seem to be a Mexican or European version of this 1,4 butanediol, or maybe a version of 2(3h) furanone di-hydro in either of these two countries, (continent)? And if so, what name does it go by?

Answer #5
I have also been taking 1,4 butanediol for about 8 months now. The product I take has a concentration of about .047 grams per fl. oz. My dose is about 1 fluid oz per use. I originally started taking it to help my insomnia, which it completely cured. But now I also take it usually once during the day to help me relax. I have experienced no negative side effects after finding my optimum sleep and day doses. I find that my body's ability to process waste seems to increase slightly after taking it; but this is probably because of its muscle relaxing effect.

I sleep and feel better than I have in years. The only side effect that I don't like, is that it creates a slight greasy film on my face after dosing. But this is easily taken care with a towel and not really a negative effect. Other than that, I'm sure there is a potential for abuse with this substance, but this potential is pretty small. I'm 25 years old and a college student.

Answer #6
I have been using one form or another of butanediol for over a year now, I have never experienced any negative effects from any of the products. One thing I have noticed is a decrease in my body fat, and absolutely wonderful sleep. It is my understanding that these products will become controlled substances in Feb. 2000, has anyone heard otherwise or know of any loopholes in this bill that will be passed.

I took borametz (extract from the leaf found in the trees in Crimea) and followed the instructions carefully, i.e., take one dose mixed with water on an empty stomach before sleeping every night for 14 days. In a few minutes, felt dizzy and slept well. No bad after effects. Good after effects, however, were unbelievable - strong, real hard, erections every morning, great sexual performance. That was 3 years ago. To this date, the good effects have not waned. I sincerely believe borametz extract is better than Viagra.

Answer #8
I have been taking butanediol in various forms for over a year now. I have experienced nothing but excellent effects from the substance. I used to have problems sleeping. After taking butylene glycol, my sleeping problems subsided almost instantly.

Butanediol has helped in another part of my life also. About a year ago, I learned that my father had an addiction to crack/cocaine. He had tried to quit many times, but just could not do it. Since she knew I would be devastated, my mother kept me unaware of the problem for about a year. My family was on the brink of falling apart when I finally found out. Knowing the effects of butanediol, I offered it to my father and asked him to use it whenever he felt it necessary, particularly when he felt the urge to succumb to his addiction.

Since that time, my father has made a full recovery and my family life is better than I can ever remember. Butylene glycol is truly the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has given me my father back. It is just a shame that this wonderful product is being taken off the shelf. I just hope the legislature recognizes the great advantages this product offers, so that others may benefit as much as I did.

I recently bought a bottle of BD and used about 2/3 of it before experiencing kidney pain and difficulty urinating. I was checked out by a doctor and there's no apparent damage. The solution I used was sold as a solvent with water mixed with 6 grams/fluid ounce of what the seller said was 99.9% pure BD. I have used GBL and GHB in the past and had no similar such problems with them, regardless of dose. I read that (even pure) BD can cause a "heavy kidney load" even if used only moderately often (e.g. twice a day). But there were small amounts of propylene glycol and propylparaben in the mixture, which I dismissed as benign in such small amounts. Whether or not the latter 2 substances played a role in my discomfort of several days is not something I would be knowledgeable about. But I did experience similar pain when I used a product called "Dream On" (which contained unlisted BD and GBL) for a couple of months. That pain seemed to last longer and was slightly exacerbated whenever I drank alcohol or took GBL (i.e. gave my kidneys any sort of increased activity).

I'm now leaning toward the conclusion that it was caused by BD, and was some sort of slight damage my doctor didn't detect. It has been five days since I poured out the BD mixture, and my right kidney is still bothering me somewhat. I think I will go to a naturopath or herbalist. It seems that the GBL solutions that were banned are much safer than BD, based on my experience and with countless hours of seeking out subjective web-lore about the precursors. GHB itself I consider to be as safe as its proponents claim, and I think there has been too much negative hype. It's really a shame that the drug has become too infamous in the media to ever be released safely over the counter. It will probably never be approved as a prescription drug in the US because it's too easy to make, and no American pharmaceutical company will pioneer distribution of something they can't trademark for at least several years.

Answer #10
I also have been taking 1,4 butanediol for around 2 years, using it every single day. I have not noticed ANY harmful side effects. But I have noticed many good side effects, such as I have not been sick during the time I have used this stuff (this is most likely due to the increase of alpha interferon that is caused by 1,4 BDO).

I have been doing heavy research on this chemical for some time now, and most of the research I have found has been positive. The FDA banned this because of the club kids using it in excess and mixing it with other substances and getting very ill. ALSO, if all the studies that took place in Europe over the last 30 years were available to the public, there would be a rampage to get a hold of this stuff without the FDA and big business getting a stronghold on it. But they would not let that happen.

Answer #11
I think you are all kidding yourselves. This is a very dangerous chemical used as a solvent in industrial settings. My son overdosed on a formerly legal substance called Zen. Check out the report from CNN. I can't believe there is any health benefit to this substance. There is also an excellent article in The New England Journal of Medicine with information on the long term side effects.

Answer #12
This is an update on my last response (answer # 9). I haven't taken any BD for over 3 weeks, but am still feeling a strong psychological need for it. My kidney problem mentioned above had nothing to do with the BD, and was probably not a kidney problem at all. Hence, I used the product regularly every day as both and anxiolytic and antidepressant. BD is slower in onset than GBL or GHB, and has a smoother exit effect. The GHB/gaba rush that BD causes makes me feel almost infinitely socially enabled; it causes disinhibition to a far greater degree than any benzodiazepines I have taken. I have found that the slow onset of BD, especially when there is food in the stomach, has caused me to bump up the dose, sometimes carelessly and to overdose proportions.

I have passed out or gone into the infamous "GHB trance" in front of my girlfriend. She described me as a drooling zombie. I would wake up feeling nice and refreshed and ready for sex. And that came easily for me until I went into an absence-seizure-like trance in a restaurant, and was walked, unconscious, and apparently being able to say nothing but "I'm so sorry", to an emergency room, where I woke up feeling good but unknowingly in for a rough time. The resident and interns in the ER were patronizing and refused to let me go for six hours. At first, I could remember my name, but barely my age. When asked what day it was, my reply was one day off. It took me a minute or two to remember my girlfriend's name and much longer to remember the names of her two friends.

Anyway, here's the point; I had passed out one too many times to count myself a responsible user of BD. We poured out the remainder. But I took the bit I still had at home a few days later after promising my girlfriend I would never do it again. I haven't done it since, but have bought and returned 1 bottle and am expecting a shipment of another bottle from another BD concern. The people I've told about this have offered to hold it for me so I won't be inclined to abuse it, but I fear worse will happen. I should probably not open the bottle. This post GHB malaise has, I think, played a role in my recent break-up with my girlfriend, whom I realize I love very much. I am very confused about the use of these drugs; and am scared that I might never regain any semblance of the mental "health" that it has offered so often. My therapist has told me that if I take any again, it will be a considerable setback in my treatment and prescription drug therapy. I'm inclined to believe the doctor, but GHB has such a powerful voice. I never thought I was this addictive or weak. GHB is most likely a wrong way up, but everyone should have some around for the end of the world, when and if it comes.
