Question: How Can I Fix Torn Cartilage Without An Operation?
How ca I fix torn cartilage without an operation?

Answer #1
I don't think you can 'fix' torn cartilage without an operation (I've had 2 knee operations). There are some studies (see the book "The Arthritis Cure") which suggest taking Glucosamine Sulfate/Chondroitin Sulfate will actually help regrow cartilage, but I wouldn't think it could fix torn cartilage.

Years ago I tore cartilage in my knee when I fell on it. I went to a surgeon, finally, who told me how to do isometric exercises to build up my atrophied muscle (from "resting" the knee). I now have no problems after my muscle building.

I don't know where to begin. I've had problems with my knee for about a year now, and I finally went to see my surgeon a month or two ago, and sure enough he recommended me to have an arthroscopy. Prior to the operation I wanted to change my mind, but was talked into it, saying that it was like having a service to your car. Let me tell you it isn't. It has been the most painful experience I have had in my life. I wish I had not been through it.

After more than two weeks, I still am having extreme pain, moreso than before I had the operation. I am heavily into sport and am wondering if I will ever get back to any form of sport at all.

Signed, a very disappointed patient.

I was just told I have torn cartilage from a car accident. Just had an MRI and I am waiting for results. Doctor said if the torn cartilage is confirmed on the MRI, then I'll have to have surgery. I really don't want to go through that. I will ask him if there is a way that I could live without surgery and free of pain. There has to be another way of treating this. I'm glad I read everyone's opinion on this matter before I did anything. At least after reading this page I feel I have an option. Thank you to all.

My left knee has been broken (big time) and has cartilage on one side only (if you saw my x-rays you'd laugh because there's literally nothing there). It hurt like a cattle prod for years. There is also degenerative arthritis. Any twisting at all, no matter how trivial was painful enough to cause borderline blackouts.

I have been using Amerifit (GNC's house brand), "First Aid" which is shark cartilage, and Green Lipped Muscle (the key ingredient) for almost 5 years now with amazing results. It is only temporary, and a few weeks after I run out, the pain starts creeping back in, but boy, does it ever work! I can roller skate, roller blade and even run a little bit here and there. I walk straight and am pain free after 13 years of constant, nagging pain.

I highly recommend that anyone with these problems a least try the Green Lipped Muscle. I have trouble finding First Aid at GNC stores, so they probably need a nudge to bring this product more to the forefront so we can get it when we need it.
