I would like to know some of the potential side effects of using creatine and what could the long term effects possibly be?

I am a (semi-) competitive mountain bike racer in sport vet class. My training rides near the house consist of >2,000 foot climbs. I have taken creatine on and off over the past year, only when training hard. This spring, I have been riding hard, and took (less than manufacturer recommended) doses of creatine. I was cramping unbelievably bad, and early in a ride, not at the end of the ride. I was worried about the cramps ripping something. After reading the other comments on this stie about cramps and tears, I am tossing the stuff. Who needs a ripped hamstring?
