Consumer Review: Ma Huang Almost Killed My Wife. The Doctors In The ER Thought She Had Taken Meth.
I got to bring my wife home from the hospital yesterday, thank God, after the 4 most difficult days of my life. Because of Ma Huang, she had one painfully long day in the ER, 4 seizures, one VERY long ambulance ride, one doctor who swore she must have been taking METH, 2 MRIs, 2 EEGs, 1 night in the CVICU with a fever - in restraints - hooked up to all kinds of monitors and wires, countless IVs, 1 spinal tap, and countless other tests were endured because some geniuses continue to line their pockets by selling poison to unsuspecting consumers who only want to improve their health.

I talked to so many doctors this week that I could not possibly estimate the number, and I can only remember 2 names. Today, she is covered with bruises and needle holes, has the worst headache she's ever had, can't stand for more than 5 minutes without getting dizzy, and can't drive for 6 months. She has to take Dilantin for 6 months at which time she gets more tests, and she's taking Tylenol with Codeine for the pain (which isn't even touching it), and another drug to combat nausea (which isn't totally effective either).

The New England Journal of Medicine advises against ephedra, and every doctor I talked to about what she had been taking just shook his/her head in disgust. Read the October issue of Reader's Digest - there's quite an interesting article in there about the horrors of these so-called "nutritional supplements." The doctors all agreed that Ma Huang MUST be avoided, and hoped and prayed that it would be banned ASAP. I just went through the most frightening, frustrating and humbling experience of my life because my wife wanted to lose weight, and believed that she could trust the "safe" "herbal" products that are so popular. She was wrong - almost dead wrong.
