Furanone

Consumer Review: Furanone Is Supposed To Send You Into Deep Sleep In Order To Increase Growth Hormone.
I am always out searching for the supplements that actually help. I have come across one called Furanone that sends you into the 3rd and 4th stages of sleep in order to increase growth hormone. I was wondering If anyone has anything good or bad to say about this stuff? The side effects I see are all from sleeping so deep, but I am more interested in the long term effects of the stuff. I will attest to it sending me off to sleepy land. Thanks for any input.

This product is one of many pre-cursors to the FDA banned Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate or GHB. It is converted in, I believe, the liver. GHB has been proven to increase levels of HGH by as much as 10 fold, but, and a very important but, it has also been show to increase prolactin levels. Although the gain in HGH is substantial, it is possible that the increase in prolactin (a female hormone that starts breast milk production) may offset this, causing no real gain in Lean Body Mass. No real studies have been done on this though, at least to my current knowledge (I welcome people to correct me if I'm wrong).

Recently the FDA banned many of these sorts of products, fearing that they might cause liver damage. GHB was banned due to the fact that it is intoxicating. People will try to argue it is deadly, but it has never ON ITS OWN been attributed to one's death. On few occasions it was in high concentrations combined with heavy amounts of alcohol, resulting in fatalities. These, however, were EXTREME cases of abuse. For this reason some states have classified GHB as a class 3 substance. Its precursors are no longer legally for sale for ingestion, although when more are found they will probably be sold.

GHB has shown promise in many medical uses including: alcoholism, insomnia, depression, anxiety, and many more. Studies are currently taking place on its benefits and long term possible dangers. The fact is there is much rumor, and not enough facts that are easily attainable. In my opinion, if used moderately WITHOUT any form of alcohol, furonone, other precursors, and GHB itself are safe to use. They do speed the sleep process, which helps muscle recovery. It's believed to increase the neuro chemical Dopamine, which would explain its anti-depressive qualities.

I personally used bot GHB and its precursors for an extended time. I found a couple problems. In my opinion, it is very addictive. Not only that, but a growing tolerance to it forces the user to gradually up the dosages, just like heroin, so BE CAREFUL. Take a break from or Cycle, if you will, this "supplement." For me, withdrawal symptoms included sleeplessness, irritability, anxiety (panic) attacks, and some mild depression. So once again, if you are going to use it, do so WITHOUT ALCOHOL and in MODERATION.

The supplement is called Dihydro-2(3H)-furanone, or more commonly referred to as Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL). It's used to make GHB by hydrolysis with NaOH or KOH, but it also converts into GHB when ingested, giving the same subjective effect. The jury is out on whether GHB (or it's relatives) actually help in muscle building. I have seen positive reviews of using GHB at night to both aid in sleep and increase GH levels during sleep (the time at which most muscle building is done) I have also read testimony stating that working out after using GHB intensively for a day or two (but stopping for a day before you work out) can help because of the increased dopamine. Though, I know of no scientific data to back up this theory.

This is probably going to be irrelevant to most people pretty soon, as both GHB and GBL will be restricted in House bill H.R.2130., which is a "date-rape prevention" act which would make GHB a Schedule 1 controlled substance and GBL a List 1 Controlled Precursor (meaning all who wish to obtain it must go through a long process and have their request reviewed)
