Question: Will My Body Build Up A Tolerence To Ginseng And The Other Supplements I Take?
Hello. I am a 31 yr. old law student who studies vigorously and keeps himself in top physical condition, exercising 5 day per week. I also take an assortment of nutritional supplements to ensure that both my brain and body are operating at their best. The supplements I take, at the recommended dosages are: spirulina, ginseng, l-phenylalanine, l-glutamine, ginko biloba, lecithin, gotu kola. My question is: by taking these supplements continuously, will my body and brain develop a tolerance to all or some of them. If so, which ones and how should I organize periods where I go off the supplements. For example, by taking l-phenylalanine every day, will my body eventually get used to that dosage to the extent that the supplement will no longer have an effect, or even worse, if I went off the supplement I would suffer adverse consequences? In one particular case, I have already been told that I should take a 2 week break from ginseng after every six weeks of use. Thank you very much.

I've used ginseng since I was 16 years old. I'm 44. Good ginseng is very expensive and is a great stimulant but you do have to discontinue it now and then as it accumulates in your body. When you've been on a long course and stop you'll feel a more intense high. You might get a little depressed thereafter but it doesn't last. It's a far better stimulant than caffeine. I used to use espresso coffee but developed bladder and urethra problems from it and skin irritation. None of this happens with ginseng. The only other thing I can think of is that too large a dose can make you feel alienated and you feel like you're going crazy. I had a similar effect from "stress-tabs".

I don't know anything about the dosages, but I heard about Centrum High Performance, which contains ginseng and gingko and all the daily vitamins and minerals. You should check it out man.
