Consumer Review: I'm Having Panic Attacks Every Day Since I Started Taking Glucosamine And Chondroitin.
I have nerve disease and rheumatoid arthritis. I began taking glucosamine and chondroitin about a month ago and found that it helped my arthritic hands within about a week. It was extraordinarily helpful---like oiling the joints in my hand. However, I began to have panic attacks daily which subsided when I stopped taking it. The brand is Sundown Osteo-Bi-Flex Max Strength. There is no mg information on the bottle. I took three a day as directed on the bottle.
Am I taking other meds? Of course; including narcotic analgesics, neurontin, indocin, effexor, elavil and desiprimine. I have been on some mix of these drugs for 4 1/2 years. No, I did not consult my doctor before taking the supplement, believing the reports that it was as toxic as water.
Is there an alternative way of taking Glucosamine & Chondroitin or alternative dosing that will minimize the panic attacks, if they are, in fact, a side effect of G&C? Has anyone else experienced similar problems with G&C?
Response #1
Go to the health store in your area and purchase Glucosamine sulfate with nothing else added. I have some and it doesn't cause me any problems, even though I have a very sensitive stomach. You may also want to try Sam-e which is also for joint pain. Good luck.

Most types of medication, whether prescription, vitamin, herbal, or anything over the counter state to seek advice from your doctor before taking. This is for good reason. Sometimes, medicine that you are already taking will have an adverse effect when being mixed with others. This doesn't mean that there is nothing comparable for you to try instead of the one you have had a bad experience with. It may be as simple as adjusting the dosage. With the medication that you are already taking, it would be in your best interest to check with your doctor before adding anything new (medication wise) to your regimen.
