Glutamine

Question: What's The Best Brand Of Glutamine And How Much Should I Take?
I'm have been working out for over a year now. I have took Creatine, protein, Hydroxycut and Xenadrine and before taking any of them I do a little research. However, I can not find a lot on Glutamine, the next supplement I wish to use. Can some one explain the effects of it, the best brand to buy and the dosage to use.

Thanks, Harry

I have taken the Nature's Best L-Glutamine, and I have found it highly effective when taking 10g a day (5g before I workout and 5g after). Since I have started taking it, I no longer get sore after workouts and recover in 2-3 days instead of 4-5 days. I have taken it for 2 weeks and my bench press has also increased from 305 pounds to 315 pounds. I have experienced no side effects and I highly recommend this product.

Oh and by the way, anybody who thinks that glutamine affects your testosterone levels or thinks that it keeps them up at night ought to have their head examined. IT IS JUST AN AMINO ACID, IT IS NOT ANDRO OR ANY TYPE OF WORKOUT ENHANCER!!!

I have to agree with Answer #1. What you will notice the most about L-Glutamine is that you won't get as sore after your workouts. Your recovery time will be cut in half. Glutamine DOES NOT by itself make you stronger. It allows you to work out more intensely and more often because your body is repairing itself twice as fast, so you reach your goals quicker. Glutamine is often given to victims of car accidents in hospitals to help their bodies recover from the pounding and shock they have just taken.

I mix it with my meal replacement shakes, but the very best way to take it is to mix it in orange juice and drink it down. It has no flavor, but is a little gritty, but nothing that bothers you or changes the taste. It's like how Creatine is best absorbed by the body when mixed with grape juice. Same thing with glutamine and O.J. Second to all that, glutamine boosts your immune system. If you take it for a prolonged period, I think you will find that you don't get sick as much and feel better overall. However, that does not mean that glutamine is the best way to boost your immune system. It's just one of the perks. An adrenal support supplement would probably be better if that is what you need alone.

I have taken glutamine off and on for years. If I were to choose between glutamine and creatine I would probably stick with glutamine. It seems to build more muscle, while creatine makes you retain water and look bloated. I'm not sure I would take glutamine with orange juice though. The citric acid in the juice has a tendency to break down the glutamine and render it useless. Your best bet is to drink it down with a protein shake.

Response #1 to Answer #3
I am responding to the person that wrote that glutamine will be broken down by the citric acid in orange juice. I don't believe this for one second, and here is why: When you consume the glutamine it goes to your stomach, where it encounters stomach acid -- which is much more acidic than the acid in the juice. Therefore, it would not matter if you mixed glutamine with OJ or simply took it straight...sooner or later its gonna find some acid!
