Glycerol

Question: What Do You Know About Glycerol?
I would like to know about using glycerol for improving cuts and vascularity in all natural bodybuilding competitions. Is it safe? What are the side effects? Is it legal? Does it work? Where can I find more solid unbiased research?

Question expanded by another reader.
I would like to know anybody's experience using glycerol the day of a bodybuilding contest. I am training for a natural contest and am only 12 days away.

I have heard that using glycerol 4-6 hours before show time can fill your muscles with water making them appear larger and more vascular while drawing water from between the muscle which brings out cuts. I am afraid if I try this supplement I may possibly retain water all over and go in appearing soft and bloated, without any experience or confidence in it. It's too risky for me to use at this point unless I find out more about it.

Anyone with experience or fact based knowledge of this subject please reply. It will be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Where does glycerol originate from? Is it created by the body or is it created by man?

Answer #1
Greetings from Okinawa Japan,

Glycerol is primarily used to superhydrate the body. It allows the body to store more water for persons who exercise hard from about 60 minutes on. Usually used by marathon, ironman athletes, or Marines who sweat their but off on a daily basis here in Okinawa Japan. I do not believe it helps with cutting the muscles, it actually keeps you from becoming a heat casualty. This is straight from a registered dietitian and from other magazine articles from the net. Hope this helps.
