Question: Is There A Natural Alternative To Taking LorTabs For Back Pain?
I have been using LorTabs now for about a month for back pains. I thought I would be off of them by now but my doctor wants me to continue these tablets for about 90 more days. I was wondering if there was anything that I could take that would have the same effect but all natural.

Thanking you in advance for your help in this matter.

It will really depend on the nature of the back pain. If it is muscle spasms, a good calcium-magnesium supplement can relieve muscle spasms quite effectively. If the pain is arthritic in nature, a combination of alfalfa and osteokinetics added to an existing good foundation of supplements, will probably bring relief. Other pain management techniques include relaxation, meditation, biofeedback, hypnosis, etc.

This may not answer your question the way you wanted, but I think you should know this. The doctor himself should have told you this. As far as Lortabs go, in 30 days you could very well get hooked on them. In 90 days, if you can do without them, then you need to. Trust me, they are very addictive and you may not even realize it until you finally try to stop taking them. They are also very bad for your liver.

I have actually seen people die in this town in one way or another because of Lortabs. They get so addicted that they don't even have money to feed their children. It's real bad when children do without, but I have seen it happen a lot in this town. Most people get addicted from their doctors giving them too much pain medicine and often lots of refills. This is why most of the crime is done. Doctors give too much medicine to people who have never done drugs in their life, and then when bad things happen, people look down on others because they become dependent on drugs every day to get them going in the mornings, and just to be able to a feel normal.

What I suggest is a pill called Oxycotton. It is also addictive, but nothing like Lortab. Lortab gives you a little feel good and Oxycotton takes the pain away for 24 hours and you don't have that jonesing for more. Also, it is proven to be a lot better for your liver than Lortabs. Now some people do use Oxycotton in ways that they shouldn't, and these people do not need pain medicine. But always check with your doctor first because you could be allergic to certain medicines. And never buy it off the street. What I am saying is if you have to take pain medicine, talk to your doctor about Oxycottons instead of Lortabs. Lortabs are just not worth it in the long run.

What is really misrepresented when you are prescribed pain medication, is the dosage recommendation. It is only a recommendation. If you are in pain, take one, if not, do not. If you feel that you have been taking too much, try not to take any for a while. Pain management is a lot more than taking drugs. Pain medication should only be taken when you feel it is necessary and you think it will benefit your pain management program. A little discomfort, or wanting the "high" should not be part of the program. To ignore the benefits pain medication can help you with can be just as, or more detrimental as risking the addiction by using them in your pain management.

As far as other options, diet and exercise are the most important. Some good supplements are Glucosamine and Chondroitin and MSM which can be found at most vitamin retailers. Incorporating these with diet and exercise should help you to not depend on pain medication as much, and eventually get off of them totally. In my personal opinion, if you take more than 5 lortabs a week for a period of time, say several weeks, then other options should be explored for your pain management as the whole idea is to have progress in your treatment. Hiding the pain is not the goal, but to help you deal with the pain is, so just be aware of the potential dangers and use common sense when dealing with them.

Also, some other advice is to help your growth glands. This will help you to heal yourself. Study supplements for pineal, pituitary and thymus glands. Another thing is QUIT SMOKING! I was a workman's comp adjuster for 5 years and very rarely saw a back fusion that actually healed when the patient was a smoker.
