Creatine Monohydrate

Question: Does Creatine Help Muscular Dystrophy?
I have an 18 year old girlfriend who has muscular dystrophy and an irregular heartbeat. She works out regularly and wants to take creatine. Is this wise of her?

Thanks,
Concerned

Creatine monohydrate is not for everyone. Will it cause health problems, we are not sure. I know studies are being done today on the benefits and health risks of this supplement at research labs and universities across the country (e.g. McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario found that creatine may delay muscle degeneration for MS suffers- Hamilton Spectator, March 13, 1999).

As for myself, I am a great believer in this stuff especially in the area of body building. For years, I tried many types of supplements (short of steroids) and found very little gain in strength and/or muscle mass. When creatine was announced, I decided to give it a try. Boy, what a big difference! After 3 months of using this supplement, I noticed major gains in strength, muscle mass, and stamina (what took me 1 year, I was able to do in a few months).

I do agree on one point, your body does shutdown the production of creatine when being externally supplied. To prevent your body from being "chemically" dependent on this substance, I highly recommend taking this stuff in cycles (e.g. 4-6 weeks on, 2-3 weeks off). By using this method, you can reduce any heath risks (if any) that may be associated with it. As of today, I suffer absolutely no side affects from it. Again, this stuff is not for anyone. If you are not sure, do research or consult a doctor first.

Thank You,
Terry
