After taking Celebrex 100mg twice a day for only two days, I sounded like I was coming down with bronchitis the second day. By the following morning, I felt so bad that I tried to get an appointment to see my family doctor, and also called off work. Then, I remembered that early in 1999, I had been on Celebrex 200mg once a day and had been treated for upper respiratory infections that just wouldn't stop (my doctor thought I had mono, even).
When I looked up the side effects in my PDR, I had most of the upper respiratory ones listed: laryngitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, the works. Needless to say, I refused to take anymore Celebrex. It only took a couple of days to get rid of my upper respiratory problem. I did it not with new medication, but by not taking anymore Celebrex. For this reason I told my family doctor to list Celebrex and Vioxx both as drug allergies on my records. (In case anyone wonders why my doctor didn't think of this...I relocated to another state several weeks after I had had the first round of upper respiratory effects. I had only stopped taking the original prescription because I felt the price was too much to pay when I could still get relief with Ibuprofen.)
