Consumer Review: I Smoke Marijuana Daily To Keep My Weight Up. Now I Think I'm Addicted To It.
I have smoked marijuana for 17 years now on a DAILY basis. I weigh 106 lbs. (34 years old) and have always fought my weight. I am 5' 2" and if I don't smoke daily I have NO appetite and can't seem to eat. I have a very high metabolism. Therefore, my weight is always around 100 lbs. When I smoke marijuana, I of course eat. I find now that I think I smoke too much. They say it's not addictive, but I feel I am addicted. What can I do to stop or slow myself down? I believe I go through withdrawals if I don't smoke. I have tried to stop and my husband wants me too, but can't do it. I do like being able to keep my weight up....it's a big thing with me. I seem to be nauseous if I don't smoke, then can't eat...and make myself sicker. If I smoke just a little, I am hungry and feel much better.

Please respond if you can. I don't know where to turn with this question. I just don't want to have to depend on it every day. I can't even go out of town or on vacation with my kids and husband because he doesn't approve and now thinks I have a problem. I am starting to think so too. I do not want to go on cruises or vacations or to grandpa's where it's almost impossible to smoke in these places. Yet if I don't or can't smoke, I will be sick and nauseous the whole time. My husband thinks it's in my head...I think it is really affecting me. Please help me with this. Thank you!

What can I say. After reading your letter, I could swear I was the one that typed it. I too have smoked for the same amount of years and am of the same age. My wife was continuously on my back, due to the fact that I too have kids and was always "hanging out" for my next smoke, whether it be in the morning, lunch or tea. It also made the problem worse due to the fact that I grew 1-2 plants a year so I would not have to buy it. So, I then had an abundance to smoke 24 hours a day.

My weight has always been constant at 70kg, and I am highly active in my sport and work. But the drawbacks were that I could never reach my full potential in any of what I was doing due to the relaxed mode I was always in. I have only been not smoking now for 47 days, but every day is an achievement to m.

After an argument with my wife one day, I was lying in bed when I finally got the courage to get all the pot I had in the house and boil it in a jug. I let it stand overnight. It basically made the smoke useless and I tipped it out. In my mind for the next 3 days, I kept asking myself if I had done the right thing. Now, nearly 2 months later, I know I have. There's not a day that goes past where I see friends that either are having pot or offer me a smoke, but the will power each day gets stronger and stronger. My wife gives me support, but you also have to cope with the new stresses of life (the everyday things) which aren't easy to cope with when you've been stoned for the past 2 decades. I myself can only say that, at this point, life still goes on.

At some point, smoking will be the demise of your relationship with your family and your job. I don't claim to have an answer for your/our problem, and yes, I did have a (fu––ed up child life), but at some time in your life we have to take control of our destiny and not have anything/anyone dictate it for us . Good luck finding the answer to your problem, but inevitably you're the one that has that power. Just look at your life and ask yourself what you intend to do or say to your children when they start doing the habits that surround them. Then ask yourself whose to blame. The environment they grew up in or peer pressure.

I would like to say thank you for the life that I have today and the family that I still have and to my wife. Without the constant hassling from her and the support she gave, I would not have what I still have now -- THREE BEAUTIFUL KIDS, A LOVING FRIEND (my wife), AND MY JOB.

I too, at one time, was faced with the same dilemma as you. I weighed 125 to 130 lbs, and at 5 foot 11 was very skinny and anorexic looking. I did not smoke pot to gain weight, however. I smoked just for the high feeling. I loved the mood that it gave me. Check that, I LOVE the mood that it gave me. I did eat when I smoked, but whenever I was not smoking I would not eat. You can only smoke so much you know. But no matter what I did, I would remain at that weight, 130 lbs. Until one year I got in trouble. I went to jail, several times, for possession of marijuana.

I will sum things up a lot. I have been to jail nine times because I lived in a town that is very hard on marijuana smokers, harder than they are on the dealers, and I refused to stop smoking pot. Last year, I moved several states away. I don't know anyone here. I do not smoke here. I do not feel withdrawal (I agree it is not in your head). And I am proud to say that I am up to 160 lbs and feel great! Better than ever before. I don't have coughing fits in the morning anymore, which I do not miss at all.

I think it is possible to smoke marijuana at a controlled rate and be OK. I have had luck with that, but I suggest you have a loved one regulate your use (sounds silly doesn't it). Because whenever I tried to control my use, it did not work. My whole point is that if you give it up for a week, you will be fine. I guarantee that at the end of that week you will still want to smoke. But, you will not be as sickly or as irritable as the first day. It has been 4 months for me and I still want to do it, but my weight is up and my mood is great.

I hope that you consider what I have told you. All that is said here is truth. Will I smoke again you ask. Yep, but with a little more sense. And from what I know about your habit, you may not, if all you care about is weight gain. Please consider what I have taken time to write. I hold you in the highest respect because I have been there before.

Matt
