Consumer Review: Paxil Worked For Me, But The Side Effects Forced My To Try St. John's Wort Instead.
|
I used Paxil about 3 years ago (so I can't remember actual dosages) for approximately 5 months. I was prescribed the drug by my doctor for my severe panic attacks and depression.
Within 24 hours of taking my first dosage, I felt remarkably better (more relaxed and happier). For me, it was a God-send! My panic attacks were less frequent and less severe, and my depression was manageable.
However, I gained between 15-20 pounds, had crazy and vivid dreams, zero libido and a constant dry-mouth. After about 4 months, I saw a drop-off in the drug's effectiveness, and rather than just "take more," I decided to seek alternative treatments (diet/exercise coupled with a darn good therapist and St. John's Wort) and get myself off Paxil.
Getting off Paxil was horrible. I had to cut my dosage down by quarter pills (went down a quarter every two weeks) because if I didn't, I was not only nauseated, but was physically retching. Also, it took awhile for the dreams to subside.
I still have episodes of extreme depression, but don't suffer the panic attacks anymore (and the depression is still manageable). Whether you use it or not, best of luck!
