Consumer Review: Paxil Is Great For My Depression, But I Reduced The Dosage Due To Sexual Dysfunction.

| I've been on Paxil for a few years and have had great results as far as depression and compulsive behavior treatment go. I cut my own dosage from 20mg daily to 10 because of sexual dysfunction. I do know it is going to be hard to get off of. If I forget to take it for a day or two, I feel very light-headed and emotional.
There is a book called 'Prozac Backlash' by Dr. Glenmullen that describes how Paxil and other SSRI's (Selective Seritonin Reuptake Ihibitors) can cause an effect called "akathisia" in some people who will then have terrible, suicidal thoughts and feelings. The book also addresses the difficulty of getting off these types of drugs because of the heavy-duty withdrawal symptoms. Paxil is supposed to be one of the hardest because it washes clear of your body so quickly after you stop taking it.
