Consumer Review: Paxil Did Wonders For My Panic Attacks, But Gave Me Horrible Withdrawal Symptoms When I Stopped Taking It.
|
While Paxil does help with my anxiety/panic attacks, after I missed two doses I began to experience a horrible withdrawal. From what I've read, there is no proof that Paxil does have withdrawal symptoms. I think consumers such as me should get a chance to voice their opinion. Before going any further, I would like to say that I think Paxil is a wonder drug. My panic attacks are completely gone. I do have occasional anxious feelings, but am able to talk myself out of them. I just want to let people know that the feelings they have when getting off of Paxil aren't anxious feelings. Your panic/anxiety didn't come back that quick. It is just the effects of getting off of Paxil.
I often wonder if the companies who make antidepressants make them addictive. They work wonders in the lives of the depressed, anxious, and those suffering from panic. But, they also have withdrawal symptoms that make it easier just to stay on the drug than to "come down."
I stopped taking Paxil 20mg because I thought I no longer needed it. I went through a bad time in my life, but that was over and I was back to normal. I stopped taking Paxil on a Thursday and by Saturday night I was feeling awful. I felt like I had low blood sugar. My blood felt thin, my head confused, my body detached. I felt faint. I had no clue what was going on. I quickly filled myself up with sweets, thinking I needed sugar. I immediately went to my doctor. He said it was anxiety, but I knew better. Who knows anxiety better than someone who has suffered from it for a an extended period of time? After extensive research, I know that I was experiencing Paxil withdrawals. I took a 20mg pill, and within thirty minutes I began to feel normal again. I now take it faithfully.
I've missed two doses once after that. I was out of the pill. I began to feel the symptoms and took a Metabolife. Boy did that help.
If you suffer from anxiety, depression or panic attacks, I strongly suggest taking Paxil. I also strongly suggest seeing a doctor when you decide to stop the medication. Don't stop because you feel better. Stop when the doctor is ready to carefully monitor you. Thanks.

| I too stopped taking my Paxil about 5 days ago and have been going through hell since! I was taking Zoloft since March of this year, but when I found that it didn't help with my anxiety as much as I wanted it too, I asked my doctor if I could try Paxil. So, at the beginning of this mont, I started on Paxil. After a few weeks, I realized it was making me soooooo sleepy and very out of it. I felt like a zombie. So I started taking Metabolife to give me an extra boost. I took the two together for about a week, but that just made me feel sick. I also started experiencing very bad night sweats, so I immediately made an appointment with my doctor. I couldn't get in to see him until this past Thursday, but I couldn't stand the zombie-like state any longer and discontinued the Paxil on Monday. By Wednesday, I had a severe headache, dizziness, an almost drugged out feeling. I can't get rid of the headache or dizziness and I feel awful!
On Thursday, my doctor told me to go back on the Zoloft, but I neglected to tell him about the Metabolife because I was afraid of what he might say about me mixing the two without consulting him first. Anyway, I stopped the Metabolife on Thursday and it is now Saturday afternoon and I am miserable. I feel so dizzy and nauseous. My heart races every once in a while and I feel like my blood pressure is high. This headache is horrible. So, I'm wondering if these are withdrawal symptoms from the Paxil or adverse side effects from the Metabolife. After reading all the horror stories about Metabolife, I am scared senseless. I just want to figure out what is going on with me and what I can do to feel better. Of course, since it is the weekend, I must wait until Monday to call the doctor's office and I am afraid to put anything into my system such as the Zoloft or Paxil or anything else for that matter. Can you shed some light? I would greatly appreciate it because right about now I feel awful and scared to death at the same time.
