Paxil

Consumer Review: I Took Paxil To Help My Compulsive Over-Eating, But It Didn't Help. Prozac Works Much Better.
I have difficulty with compulsive over eating. I had managed to maintain a normal weight (120-130 lbs.) from age 30 to 40, after 20 years of obesity. I started gaining weight, got up to 145, and went to my doctor. He put me on Paxil. It was horrible getting used to it. I was so sleepy, and yet my heart raced.

I was up to 60mg of Paxil and still over eating. My doctor said I would have to take another drug in addition to the Paxil, and I thought, PHOOEY, why should I? At 60mg I could hardly reach orgasm, where I used to have multiple orgasms. I was having WILD dreams of punching people and yelling at them, which I didn't mind, but my husband said I was acting them out in my sleep and waking him up.

As soon as I started coming off it, I felt like crap. Racing heart, headaches, dizzy, can't think clearly. It has been 6 weeks. I am embarrassed at work sometimes because I am a professional, and as soon as I start to discuss something and breathe a little faster, my eyes go out of focus as my heart beats faster and I can't think of the words I want to say. I can't wait until this Paxil is out of my system.

I took Prozac before, and it was better. I had hand tremors at 60mg, but otherwise I felt fine. It didn't do anything to enhance my mood; the Paxil seemed to cheer me up, although I don't have depression. I just noticed I felt a little more chipper, smiled a little more, laughed a bit easier. Prozac didn't give me ANY mood enhancement, but it TOTALLY ELIMINATED MY DESIRE TO OVER EAT. That is when I realized my compulsive eating is neuro-chemical, because I would eat and then just feel satisfied and stop. Normally, I just don't have a good physical sense of when it's time to stop.
