Paxil

Consumer Review: Paxil Helped My Anxiety And Depression, But It's Making Me Eat So Much That I'm Getting Fat.
I have been on and off of Paxil numerous times. I think, for someone having depression, it can be hard to tell what symptoms are from the meds and which are not. It is good to read several articles before forming an opinion or idea about a medication.

I do know that being on Paxil turns me, a person with a very high libido, into a person with no libido whatsoever. To me, that is devastating.

I have also noticed when going on or off Paxil (aside from the other withdrawal symptoms) that I get so tired it makes it hard to function for several days until it finally passes. That is very hard, and if you consider going on Paxil, you may want to plan on having some free/vacation time and/or a helping hand with your kids (if applicable) so that you can sleep when your body forces you to.

I think the most frightening problem I have had, though it was temporary, is that it made me practically become someone else. It has made me want to do drugs (which is very strange for me because I hate drugs and deeply fear them) and it has made me want to shave my head. These things are absolutely out of character for me, I assure you! Both of those "episodes" happened at two separate times when I was on Paxil. Coincidence? I don't know and neither did my doctor (oh, and once it made me want desperately to smoke, which I do not do).

I have noticed an increase in my eating before I was on Paxil. I was on 20mg originally, then I went up to 30mg. Due to increased stress and lack of it working, my current doctor upped my Paxil to 40mg (with each increase I had a different doctor). About two weeks ago was when I went to 40mg. It was just like I began from "scratch." I mean I had the same exact symptoms that I experienced going on Paxil from nothing. The intense tiredness. That was hard. But the worst Paxil side effect is that I have not been able to stop eating! Literally. I am so disgusted with myself over this. I went from being a lovely woman to just feeling so bad because I have gained several lbs. in 2 weeks, and I lost my friskiness or whatever you want to call it. Anyway, that's why I am here to see if the eating/weight gain thing is common with Paxil. And now I see it is. To me, that is the worst side affect of all!

But, Paxil DID help cease my anxiety completely and decreased my depression very significantly!

I just have one more thing to add, if you are dealing with it, be patient. If you are suffering withdrawal, go off slowly and know it will pass. Also, Paxil has not been around long. However frustrated you are, be patient, get support, and remember there are many options. The trick is finding the right one for you, and that is tricky because meds affect every person in a unique way. Good luck to you and to me!

P.S. A new med. consideration is in my mind. (Assuming I can't find a solution to my weight concerns). If you have had an experience with a medication that you would like to share with me, please respond here. Thanks for reading this! God bless you all!

Paige

I am a 34 year old woman. I have four children. I had a baby last year and cannot lose the weight. I have always been able to lose my weight after my babies...not quickly, but I have always had the will power to stay in shape and lose weight if I've needed to. I think that Paxil has changed something in my brain to make me lose my will power. Before I got pregnant with my last baby, I stated taking Paxil. I gained twenty pounds in a year. Has anybody else had a similar experience with Paxil?
