| In 1997, I started having problems with my legs feeling very weak. Mt doctor tested me out for multiple sclerosis by doing an M.R.I. brain scan, which turned out normal. He then suggested that I see a psychiatrist because he said I was obsessing over my legs. I saw this damn shrink who put me on stress leave from a job I loved and recommended Paxil for obsessive compulsive disorder. I believed him, although I had terrible discomfort and weakness in my legs and could not stop worrying about it.
After being on the drug for two weeks, I started getting horrible profuse sweating, increased urination, bowel dysfunction, blurred vision, ringing in my ears and terrible heart palpitations. I discussed this with him and he adjusted my dosage. I got worse. I ended up in the hospital after being on Paxil for one month with severe dehydration, loss of thirty pounds, and a severe arrhythmia. I would get electric shocks raising up through my head. My liver enzymes became highly elevated and I could not absorb anything I ate, leading to malnourishment, leading to loss of muscle mass throughout my body, leading to loss of muscle in my heart. I am now 39 years old, and have right side heart failure.
I urge anyone who thinks they may be depressed or suffers from any type of anxiety to first consult a nutritional doctor to evaluate your symptoms and rule out any underlying causes of your symptoms. Serotonin uptake inhibitors are dangerous medications that doctors hand out like candy. Do not fall into the anti-depressant hellish circle. I have been through three years of hell and am still not finished. I now take only natural supplements like, co Q Enzyme 10, Magnesium chelated supplements (which is a natural tranquilizer), Kava Kava tea, Amino avid supplementations, and avoid carbohydrates at all costs. The Paxil also effected my CNS system, which regulates the water balance in my body. I cannot cool off, as I cannot sweat.
