Consumer Review: Paxil Withdrawal Has Been A Hellish Ordeal Of Violent Nausea And Electrical Shock Sensations.
|
I've been on Paxil for nearly 6 years and it definitely helped with depression. However, my life has taken a turn for the better and I didn't feel like I needed such a powerful drug, so I decided to get off it.
Withdrawal has been hellish. I did the slow tapering off routine, but the symptoms started when I hit .5 milligrams and got worse and worse, so I decided I might as well just quit, rather than try to shave the drug into smaller portions.
If this is what it's like getting off a drug that doesn't have withdrawal symptoms, as both my doctor and the pharmacist told me, heaven help anyone who tries to get off a truly addictive drug!
It has been 10 days now without any Paxil, and today I have had a couple of periods of up to 5 minutes without the electric shocks, nausea, etc. Five minutes may not sound like much, but considering I was having the shocks, violent nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, etc. literally continually for the first 10 days, this is the first glimmer of progress.
I don't know if I would have taken the drug if I had known coming off would be so difficult, but hindsight is always 20-20! At the time I started it, it made a huge difference in my ability to cope with life. By the end, the side effects including weight gain, sexual dysfunction, a "flat-line" feeling like nothing could make me truly happy or truly sad were beginning to affect the quality of my life.
Getting off has DEFINITELY affected the quality of my life over the last week. I literally have had no life. Having a couple of brief moments where the withdrawal symptoms let up, even for a few seconds, has been encouraging. At this point, I don't want to give up and go back on the drug since it seems that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.
For all of you who found this site as I did when I was first looking for evidence that I wasn't crazy, apparently the only way out is through that tunnel.
