Consumer Review: I Have Found Amphetamine Drugs To Be A Good Way To Fight The Side Effects Of Paxil, If You Can Tolerate Them.

I have been taking 20mg of Paxil for 7 years after having a major depression (breakdown). I am also taking 400mg of Wellbutrin daily. Yes, I've had all the side effects at one time or another, and still have them. The only thing that alleviates all the side effects of Paxil for me is amphetamine--in my case Dexedrine. Unfortunately, each drug presents its own side effects, so one is trading one set of problems for another. The Dex, if you are able to tolerate it, is wonderful. You never feel hungry, have amazing energy, unbelievable orgasms, and need very little sleep and no nightmares. The down side is that Dex can be addictive, and it also can be toxic in some people. If you can tolerate the Dex, it will work like a charm. I found that I was one of the unfortunate ones who cannot take speed.
At this point, I would like to find an SSRI that does not have the side effects of Paxil, but after reading reviews on this site, I am wondering if this is possible. My shrink and I agree that if I discontinue all medication, I will likely experience a swift and certain relapse. Paxil really changed my life, and for that, I am extremely grateful. But I feel that this blessing is a double-edged sword. I would greatly appreciate your opinions about changing from Paxil to an SSRI with fewer side effects, namely, the weight gain. My shrink has suggested Serzone. Any thoughts on this?
