Consumer Review: I've Been Highly Orgasmic All My Life, But Paxil Ruined My Sex Drive And Made Me Yawn All Time.
|
| I suffered from severe depression from childhood. After trying everything else under the sun, I finally turned to antidepressants at age 25. Paxil was the first one my doctor tried, explaining that finding the right medication for depression can take several--or many--tries. I had some relief. I can't say I wasn't depressed anymore, but I felt somewhat better. But the side effects were rather severe. I could not stop yawning! It doesn't sounds like a big deal, but imagine trying to have a conversation with with a boss, teacher, client, co-worker, whatever and yawning at least every ten seconds. I wasn't tired either. Also, I have had the good fortune to be highly orgasmic all my life, and I lost all sexual desire, ability, and sensation within one day of taking my first dose. It was eerie. Happily, it returned--and the yawning ended--right after I stopped taking it. Oh also, I can't believe I almost forgot this part. When I went on it, I had persistent severe nausea and fatigue that literally kept me in bed for two weeks. Then, oddly, it lifted within one hour.
All in all, I would not say paxil was the answer to my woes. I'm very glad there are so many other options available! Incidentally, Wellbutrin was excellent, amazing...I can't say enough good things about it except that it stopped working very abruptly after half a year. On to the next one--next stop, Celexa. I took paxil for less than one month, so maybe that's why I avoided the terrible withdrawal I have since come to learn about.

| I just started trying antidepressants also, but I started with Effexor. I felt better, but was only on it for one month and was confused. I guess I went back to the doctor thinking this drug is just not working. I thought I should feel worlds better. So the doctor put me on paxil for one month. Ewww, I was so tired and yawning all the time and my brain seemed like it had a huge cloud in front of it. I couldn't think, I couldn't stay awake, and worst of all, I felt no desire for sex at all. NOTHING. It was awful.
Three weeks I put up with this, but fearing the withdrawal symptoms, I didn't stop taking them until I talked to my doctor. I went back and she put me back on Effexor because I then felt from talking to others, I didn't give it a long enough chance. I was off paxil for three days before I started back on Effexor, and right away I felt better. Sex drive is back, I can think clearly and I have loads of energy. The dreams aren't so bad either. A person just cant imagine the feeling of relief. My only concern for the future is how long will Effexor work for me. Right now, I don't care as long as I feel better.
