Paxil

Consumer Review: Getting Off Paxil And Xanax Gave Me Horrible Withdrawal Symptoms.
I have been on Paxil and Xanax for about 2 years now. In the beginning, I was prescribed Xanax for panic attacks and it worked fine. A few years ago, I went through the beginning of the end of a marriage with two small children and the panic disorder became a daily function. My GP put me on Paxil and I still was taking Xanax (.5mg as needed). I ended up taking 40mg of Paxil daily. As I went into counseling, the psychiatrist put me on 1mg Xanax, three times a day and 40 mg Paxil. As time went on, my life straightened out and the time has come for me to get off the drugs (they made me extremely tired).

First I cut the Paxil dose in half, no problem. Then I went cold turkey with the Xanax. Big mistake. That lasted for a little over a month when I could take it no longer. I felt like living hell. I did not feel like myself at all. I was irritable, spaced out...feeling like I just was so out there and not me anymore. It was the worst nightmare. I spoke to a psychiatrist who told me that was the worst thing I could have done. I could experience seizures for up to 6 months after going cold turkey. He said the Paxil was nothing to worry about though...there is no problem getting off. How wrong he was. I now am weaning off the Xanax, taking .5mg twice a day with low side effects at this point.

I stopped taking Paxil 5 days ago and it has been rough (though not as bad as the Xanax). About two to three days after I stopped the Paxil, I started feeling extremely dizzy and lightheaded. Then yesterday I was a mess. I could have spent the day crying. I was so sad and depressed, over what, I could not say except the Paxil was doing this. I also feel like I have been on a caffeine buzz for the past three days. It's been terrible, and all the docs I have spoken to about Paxil say there's no side effects to getting off. How wrong they are. If I would have known two years ago what I know now about Paxil and Xanax, I would have never taken either.
