Consumer Review: I've Put On 30 Pounds In The 5 Months That I've Been On Paxil. It's Also Affecting My Sex Drive.
|
I have taken paxil for about 5 months and I have gained 30lbs and feel miserable. I don't know which is worse, the depression I felt when I was skinny or the depression that I feel now that I am overweight and can't wear any of my clothes and don't want to leave the house. I don't want other people to see me looking like this. I hate it, and I don't know what to do. Plus my sex drive, well I have no sex drive anymore! Help!

I have also gained 30 pounds in the last year on Paxil. I know that doctors do not want to listen to this because I have tried. I have never been heavy and I exercise more and eat less than I ever have in the past. I am slowly going off of the medication.

I gained 40 pounds while on Paxil, and, as you say, my doctor didn't want to hear about it. I kept telling her about the weight gain--the way I was gaining weight, even though I was still exercising and dieting. I started to give up, and the pounds slowly increased. It was the most bizarre thing. So yes, you're right: doctors don't seem to listen to that complaint. I'm now, after 6 years, attempting to withdraw from the drug, and I feel terrible. It's been a rocky 6 years.
