I had scalp psoriasis and was using a coal tar scalp cleanser shampoo. The scalp cleanser reduced the inflamed feeling somewhat though the psoriasis was recurring. My scalp was constantly itchy, burning and very sensitive, not to mention LARGE flakes with some hair intact were peeling off. I couldn't use regular shampoo as this just irritated my scalp and was almost unbearable. I was constantly scratching my scalp and noticed oily dandruff under my fingernails. My hair was also starting to recede so I started using Propecia (Finasteride 1mg) tablets daily.
Overnight I noticed the sensitivity had decreased greatly and my scalp psoriasis was disappearing. My scalp started to feel normal again, the burning and itchiness had eventually disappeared. I didn't know what to do with my hands as I had to get used to not scratching my head. I still use the scalp cleanser regularly, I still get some tiny dandruff flakes and can now use regular shampoo. I have taken Propecia tablets for a year now and the psoriasis has not returned. I haven't noticed any hair regrowth though will still keep taking the tablets.
