Question: Does Anyone Have Information About Using Ritalin To Treat Insomnia?
|
| I have severe primary insomnia. I've read of only two drugs that can help. They are Elavil and Ritalin. My Dr. will not prescribe Ritalin because he does not know the relationship between that drug and primary insomnia or how to prescribe it. Can you help? What dose should I take? At what time of day? Any info would help. And where can my Dr. get sound info for this drug so he can prescribe it to me.
Thanks
Todd

I have a prescription for Ritalin (60 mg a day). I am not a doctor and do not pretend to give out medical advice, but just coming from a completely experiential point of view, I highly doubt that Ritalin could cure insomnia. In fact, I have experienced quite the opposite. Ritalin (methylphenidate) is in the same family as methamphetamines, hence the meth in its name. Ritalin increases one's heart rate and causes big adrenaline rushes. This, I am assuming, is not really what you would want as a sleeping aid. In fact, I have developed long-term insomnia from the medication. It is almost midnight right now, and I found your question by running a search on how to combat Ritalin-induced insomnia. So, just to give advice, I would say to try something like Trazodone -- it's an anti-depressant and sleeping pill in one. But I would not take Ritalin to sleep.
