Question: Does Serzone Initially Create Deeper Depression?
|
Does Serzone initially create deeper depression? I recently started taking Serzone 2 weeks ago and my mood has gone from clinically depressed to severe and suicidal.

I have just been taking Serzone now for about 4 weeks. It did not cause depression with me. I was trying to get off of Paxil and was having an awful time trying to get off of the Paxil by reducing dose after dose very slowly. I was very upset over Paxil because of the huge weight gain for me while on Paxil. Once my doctor put me on the Serzone, I had very little problems stopping the Paxil "cold turkey."
I have done some research on Serzone and found it to be one of the very few antidepressants that have little side effects. Also Wellbutrin was included in my search as being a good choice for depression with few side effects. Everyone is different though, and it would be important to also know what else you are taking or were taking before beginning the Serzone, as you could just simply be having withdrawal symptoms from something you were taking.
I hope this helps you. I myself, am very new to all of the antidepressants, but I do strongly believe that you need to find out as much as you can about a drug before you start taking it. Doctors do not really know all that much about the medicines they put people on, unless they have taken them personally. I am still struggling with my weight gain from the Paxil, and that was my main reason for switching to the Serzone. From the research on the net that I did on Serzone, it is not supposed to have the weight gain, sexual side effects, or the withdrawal symptoms from stopping the Serzone that the Paxil had.

I too am having dizziness and mood issues since I have switched to Serzone. I started treatment for my depression with Wellbutrin, but it wasn't helping my irritability. My doctor switched me to Zoloft and Wellbutrin, but I dropped down to just the Zoloft. I liked Zoloft because I felt better without feeling drugged, but the weight gain and sexual side effects were becoming a problem for myself and my husband (respectively).
My new doctor has switched me to Serzone, but I can relate to the diminished effect compared to my Zoloft. I know I must give this new medication time and get the Zoloft out of my system, but I really miss feeling like I did on Zoloft. I sure hope my doctor is right in that once I get into the higher doses, I will see improvement. I just don't know how much longer I can sustain constant dizziness and feeling "out of control." I've come real close to switching back to my Zoloft despite needing a new wardrobe and not wanting sex.

I have been on Serzone for 8 months now, and can honestly say that this medication has saved me. I too experienced an even deeper, darker depressive episode after about two weeks on the medication. In fact, my mother called my doctor she was so worried about it. There seems to be no explanation out there for it, but it definitely took me about 2 months to acclimate to this medicine.
After 2-3 months, I definitely felt like a new person. I had a dramatic decrease in bouts of anxiety and rarely felt seriously depressed anymore. I was crying every day over something, and now rarely get very upset. My moods are much more "normal" now. I am at the point where I would like to try to get off this medicine, although I am very afraid of side effects, etc.

If, however, you are suicidal, I would run, not walk to my doctor. That is not something to wait around on and hope it goes away. It is your life you are talking about.
