Serzone

Consumer Review: Serzone Made Me So Crazy That It Cost Me My Marriage And Nearly Cost Me My Life.
After having bilateral mastectomies, I became extremely depressed. My medical doctor gave me a prescription for Serzone. After taking it for a few weeks, really terrible bizarre things started happening to me. I was afraid I was going to stab my daughter with a knife. I took all the knives in the house and had my husband hide them from me. I was feeling terrible shaking and a buzzing like ants and pressure within my head. I could not cope, and every day got worse and worse. I would hide in the closet in the fetal position and I was convinced I was losing reality. I was terribly scared, and I would try to kill myself by smothering myself with a pillow. I would get to the point of near black out and then stop. I didn't want my daughter to come home from school and find me like this.

I started hearing voices and then I had a total break down. When my daughter came home from school, she said, "Mom, what's wrong with you?" I said nothing, but she knew it was bad. She asked me again, and I looked at her and said I am afraid I am going to hurt someone. She said, "who, mom?" I again said nothing, and then she said "Me mom?" It was the worst time of my entire life. She called my husband to come home from work immediately, and I agreed to be admitted to the local psychiatric hospital in the area.

I was afraid of God, of going to the store, of getting out of the house. One time my husband asked me to get the oil changed in the car. While I was standing in line, the woman behind me asked me what was wrong. I said nothing. She said, honey, it's all over your face - she meant "fear." I said I was taking a medication and feeling totally out of control. I was diagnosed with OCD and the psychiatrist assigned to me said he would never have given me that medication for OCD. I said to my Psychiatrist that I totally believe that a PSYCHOLOGICAL MD should be the only person allowed to prescribe psychotropic medications for depression. I was told by one woman that a physician's assistant wrote her a prescription for Serzone and she was experiencing very horrible side effects. I would love to see if all of us who were prescribed Serzone could file a law suit against that terrible drug. It cost me my marriage and almost cost me my life.

Greetings, I certainly hope you are feeling better now. I know that "better" is a subjective term when dealing with chemical imbalances in the brain. I am sorry that you have OCD and sorry that Serzone did not work for you. There are plenty of drugs that can be tried until you find a medication that will work. I have tried so many anti-depressants over the course of 16 years that I have first-hand knowledge of most medications.

To help others who looking for answers about Serzone, I am asking intrusive questions in the hope that your experiences could help others. How was your marriage before taking Serzone? How was your life before taking Serzone? Were you taking any cold medicines or other over-the-counter medicines? Were you using any other prescription drugs? Did the doctor start you out with a small dose and then work up to a therapeutic level? Were you "afraid of God, of going to the store, of getting out of the house" before you took Serzone? Did you ever hear voices before or after using Serzone? When you went to the hospital, what did they do? Are you doing well on medications now? I sure hope you will fill us in on these factors because it may be just the thing someone else needs to know.

Regards,
Tom
