Consumer Review: Serzone Gave Me The Benefits Of Prozac Without The Negative Side Effects.
|
I was functional, but had no joy in my life. I felt I couldn't live like that anymore. I started on Prozac, which brought me out of the dark fog. It was wonderful! I felt as if I was finally the person I really am. Before Prozac, I had processed everything that went out of my brain and into my brain, so nothing was spontaneous. It was difficult for me to talk. I was very critical of myself.
The problems I had with Prozac were that I felt like sleeping all day and then couldn't sleep at night. I also was unable to have an orgasm. I heard about Serzone at a workshop. The MD said it was more mood specific, that it didn't affect the other centers such as sexual, sleep, appetite, etc. The first 2 days I was on it, I felt like I should've stayed home from work. I felt disconnected from reality and like I might be saying and doing strange things. I trusted my coworkers to tell me if I was inappropriate, and no I wasn't. Then after I settled into it, the Serzone has been great. I take 150mg twice a day. I had to lower it at first because I saw light streaks at at night and felt hypertensive and dizzy when standing up. But now there are no side effects, and I am so glad to have something that allows me to feel "normal" and get joy out of life. I've been on it for 5 years. I tried to go off it once, but felt that dark cloud move back in and went right back on it.
I have no shame about being on an antidepressant. I think of it like a person with diabetes...they don't have enough insulin, so they take meds to increase insulin. I don't have enough serotonin, so I take something to bring my levels up to an acceptable range. I hope this is helpful to folks!

I want to respond to your comments, and I am happy to hear that you are doing better. I went from the effexor to the serzone, and along with this I am taking buspar. In the transition period, it was very hard to come off the effexor to the serzone. I was wondering about the side effects. Is there weight gain from serzone? I gained 10 lbs from the effexor in a very short period of time, so that is why me doctor switched me. Thanks for any comments that are helpful.

It's great to know that the first two days of taking Serzone, which I am in right now, are not mutually exclusive to my emotions and my head. What a relief to realize you're not alone!
