Trazodone

Consumer Review: Trazodone Has Given Me Stange Dreams And Made It Hard To Fall Asleep.
I have taken trazadone 50mg/75mg for about the last two weeks and I have not gotten good sleep and have had very weird dreams. Has anybody found that Zyprexa at low doses does help with sleep and with GI distress? Because I have a lot of GI distress when I have used the TCA, especially tofranil and Elavil at the early start of using these medsications. I have had sleep problems for many years and hope that someone can share some of their experiences. Looking for HELP!!!

My doctor has just put me on trazadone for sleep. I have suffered from insomnia all my life, for as long as I can remember, I mean grammar school! After about 3 months, 15mg benzodiazapine worked almost consistently with 3mg melatonin, 100mg B6 and 1000mg calcium. But benzo's are addictive and now nothing works. I have been on the benzo's for 1+ years after 3+ years of 2 and 1/2 hours sleep a night. I am terrified of not being able to sleep and nothing seems to help. I could lose my life again. Maybe this combo could help you.

I have had insomnia for about 10 years. I take trazodone and it does help me sleep. If I awake (due to noise like a phone or such), I cannot get back to full sleep. But it does help if I am not interrupted. I have had no side effects other than a flat disposition. Once it wears off in the morning, I am my usual cheery self.

I've always been an insomniac - takes forever to fall asleep and I wake up often. My doctor prescribed trazodone to help. It does help with sleeping, but I hate the side effects! I feel confused, can't remember things, I'm even more irritable than usual. I'm definitely going to stop taking it. I have found in the past that generic Benadryl helps me fall asleep. Good luck!

I too have been insomniatic all my life. I used to have to be in bed for at least 9 hours to feel even remotely close to having a good amount of sleep. My dad suggested Trazodone, and I take 25 mg before bed each night. I sleep wonderfully now. I have found that a healthy sleep cycle (regular) and eating right helps me feel good and be awake in the day. When I forget my Trazodone, I either don't sleep, or I am only asleep for a few hours. Then, when I wake up in the morning, I feel like I didn't get any deep sleep.

My suggestion to those that feel that they get a weird feeling in the morning is that they need to lower their dosage, but each regimen needs to be personalized. I take only 25 mg and I am fine, while my dad has to up the amount every three days until he hits a certain mg, then he has to go cold turkey for a day or so. Whatever works is what will have to do for you. Talk to your doctor about figuring out what works for you and give Trazodone a few weeks trial.

My personal history is that I am only 21 and didn't have much along the lines of prescription drugs when I was young. So 25 mg even is good for me. But those that are older, like my dad, will need something different. As far as strange dreams--well, for some of us, it is the first time in our lives that our brain has gone into deep sleep or REM sleep long enough to have memorable dreams. Just enjoy the heck out of them and know that your brain is finally having a blast sorting out your day's thoughts. And with the morning feeling, if you still feel like crud in the morning, talk with your doctor about a drug to take in the morning when you wake up. Whether it is some sort of caffeinated thing, or something like Prozac, which has a stimulating effect, give it a whirl. It will help you regulate your body's natural clock that, for whatever reason, got messed up into insomnia. And make sure that your lifestyle promotes good sleep habits. (Sorry if you have kids though. If that's the case, just pray that you can fall back asleep after a midnight feeding.)

Good Luck!

I took trazodone (75mg) for a few months, but have decided to stop. My doctor prescribed it to help me sleep. It worked at first, but as time went on, I began to have strange dreams. I would wake up in the night and not be able to get back to sleep easily, and would feel really weird in the morning - almost like an anxiety attack.
