Question: Can Xanax Be Harmful To A Baby If A Mother Takes It While Breastfeeding?
|
My obstetrician gave me a prescription for .25 to .5 for Xanax while in the hospital after delivery. My pharmacist begs me not to take it while breastfeeding because it is a class D drug. Some web sites say not to take it, others say the tiny amount found in breast milk won't harm my baby. I took it occasionally the first few months before learning of possible dangers. As I understand it, class D refers to effects on the fetus. My baby is 3 months old now. Will occasional use at this low dose harm her?
