Consumer Review: Xanax Was Like A Gift From God When I Tried It 20 Years Ago To Stop My Panic Attacks.
|
My experience with Xanax dates back some 20 years. Unexpectedly, after my first year in college, I began having inexplicable panic attacks, which escalated to as many as 5 full blown attacks per day with night terrors as well. I suffered for 4 years before I came across an article by Dr. Dennis Munjack. At the time, he was head of the UCLA dept. of psychiatry. I had been to numerous physicians at the time, and they just blew me off.
Xanax had just hit the market, and I called Munjack personally. He recommended that I start it immediately, which I did, although back then it was difficult to find a physician to prescribe it (which is bullsh, as if you aren't stressed enough when dealing with this disorder). I won't say Xanax is a perfect medication, but it certainly felt like a gift from God when I first took it and finally got some relief. The difficult part is unlearning the avoidance behaviors developed while going untreated. My recommendation is to begin a short course immediately if you suspect you may be developing an anxiety disorder, and also have a full "functional medical" workup and find out if there are underlying precipitating causes.

I have been on and off of xanax for 12 years now. It was for panic attacks. Yes. it works for me. It is hard to stop taking them. Although they work for my panic attacks, I am a very emotional person and I'm finding it difficult to find stability in my life and relationships. I'm wondering if it's because there are underlying problems that need to be brought to surface. So, I agree that xanax is a wonderful thing. Panic attacks are very scary and not many understand. But we really should work harder on the reasons for the very physical symptoms.
