Consumer Review: Zoloft Set Me Free From Depression, And I Plan To Take It For The Rest Of My Life.
I am 42 and had been on zoloft 150mg in the morning for 3 years. I noticed it brought me up in steps, meaning I noticed I quit dwelling and loosing sleep over every little thing. I started getting back to what I used to enjoy. I started seeing things in color rather than grey.
I suffered depression all my life without realizing it, because I never knew differently. I only knew negative thoughts and positive thoughts made no sence. I looked for the bad in everything, immediately. Lots of bad events did happen in my life and I couldn't climb above. It took me a long time to except an antidepressant. I was doing so good I went off of it. When I got past the divorce and three teens, I thought I didn't need zoloft any longer. But within 2 months of quitting, I took a spiral down so fast I couldn't grab control. Then I told myself, alright I guess I really do have a chemical imbalance. I became immobile, I sat in a chair, I had no energy, I was always crying and tired. I felt fear, panic and anxiety.
Back on I went. I stayed on for 9 months, but had anxiety and fear at times. I went from 150 to 200mg. The doctor said no one has ever overdosed from 200mg of zoloft. I'm now going on a year and will stay on it because it's the only way I can feel positive and I am doing a great job in life. I am raising 2 teens on my own, I've been with great guy 5 years, I have owned my home for 15 years, and I have a good job. All my friends are doing horrible, and they're not in depression, because they handle life differently than some of us are capable of. We can think positively and move forward. Please give zoloft 2 years and go to larger dose if needed. It only speeds of recovery. Take it 1st thing in morning with toast or you'll loose 40% of its effectiveness. I don't eat breakfast and found this out after 2 years of taking it with coffee only. Good luck - hope I helped someone.

I was going through a real bad time, with suicidal thoughts. All I wanted was an antidepressant. Zoloft did help a lot, but today, a few years after quitting, I realize something is wrong about these pills. Even though they are effective (as long as you combine the use with serious psychotherapy, and modify your life habits and/or thoughts).
First of all, it was so amazingly easy for me to get a prescription. It felt like the doctor had a commission on it or something. Secondly, when I went to get my pills, the pharmacist says to me: "Now, my friend, the real you will become!" This is not something to say to someone going through severe depression. Looks like a pro-sell argument. I go: "How many bottles of these pills do you sell every week?" He answers: "A lot! I mean, a loooot!!" I go: "Is it normal that so manny people need a to take a pill to survive? This chemistry didn't exist just a few years ago. If more and more people need to pay for antidepressants to face reality, don't you agree that it's more reality, which should take some kind of pill?" The pharmacist, taking my $50, answers very seriously: "No, my friend. There is no reality in fact! The only reality which will ever exist is the one your brain makes up. Now if you put a pill in your brain, it is the whole reality that will change, really!" He smiles with a lot of self-confidence. "Try it, my friend, and come tell me how you have become more yourself after," he adds, shaking the little bottle in front of my eyes.
Well, I just feel this is real, real bad. I mean, these are not things to say to someone with suicidal thoughts. Of course, pharmacology is a big money making industry.
To finish my story, I'm happy to say that after a therapy, and changing my way of living, of eating, of thinking, and also doing practices like yoga and meditation, I've never felt so good. The pill is not a solution.
Side effects I felt during and after taking zoloft: dizziness, loss of short-term memory and confusion. But it does work. Let's just be careful. Who wants to live in such a competitive and demanding society where if you don't pay for pills, you can't make it?
Thanks! (Feel better now.)
