Zoloft

Consumer Review: Zoloft Seems To Be Losing Its Effectiveness Over Time.
I have been taking Zoloft for approximately 1 1/2 years. I started at 50 mg and slowly was increased to 100 mg (presently) since. After awhile, the medication seemed to lose its effectiveness and the "old thoughts" were returning. Does anyone have experience in this? Does this medication seem to lose its effectiveness with time? Does one build a tolerance to this medication?

Thank you

In response to Zoloft loosing its effectiveness....I too experienced the same thing. I was on 100mg, and after about 6 months I began to experience my old "demons" and negative thought patterns. It wasa as if I had stopped taking my medication and had become severely depressed again. Otherwise, I was quite healthy...working out, taking good supplements, very little alcohol. All I can figure is that we do build a tolerance to Zoloft's effects and our bodies continue to "take-up" our seretonin. I am going back to my doctor to try something else as I do not want to be increasing my dosages.

P.S. I've tried 5-HTP, St. John's....didn't help. I'm now trying mega doses of B vitamins and the amino acid Tyrosine. This does seem to have a calming effect to help with the anxiety....the kind of anxiety that completely winds you up until you just blow. I'm sure you know the kind. Also, low carb diets can make you extra testy...I know!

I never really noticed any effect from Zoloft in the first place. I didn't notice much when I started Prozac either though. I don't understand, how do any of these medications help people? I'm still depressed, life still feels too heavy, and with the snow and holidays upon us, I'd really like to find a way to make it through.
