Consumer Review: I'm On A Mission To Put Steroid Manufacturers Out Of Business After Seeing What They Did To My Son.
The use of steroids is another form of substance abuse. It is as dangerous as alcohol, crack, or heroin. I am an advanced practice nurse, master's prepared who has noticed a definite personality change as well as a huge increase in body mass, over a relatively short period of time, in my 17 year old son. One would think that being well educated in the medical field, I would have immediately picked up on the fact that my son was being adversely by some sort of substance. But I did not because my son lied to me and said he was not using any steroids. Stenox is, I believe, a growth hormone. My son, who is a body builder, has undergone a significant personality change. He is quick to anger, more readily acts out on his aggressive impulses, is combative, and as a result, has gotten himself in trouble with the police for fighting, drinking and other obnoxious behavior for the past 6 months. Today is when I found the empty pack of Stenox in the garbage in his room.

The ignorance of the workings of the human body among body builders is appalling. You people think your body is what you see in the mirror. For the most part, you all look like s---. You males don't need any more testosterone secreted. You don't need any more aggression than human nature already provided you with. Be smart. Eat a nutritionally balanced diet, workout hard, and accept the limitations of the physique mother nature gave you. Be the best you can be. Stop making the mistake women have made for years, the striving to be something we can not be. Get a life, be a real man. The trouble my beloved son has gotten into related to his use of steroids has given me, as a health care professional, a mission. I plan to put the makers of steroids out of business. Watch my smoke, body builders. See what an angry, well educated woman can do to the so-called legal steroid business.

What the hell do you mean you want to close steroid companies down? It's not the steroid company's fualt your son was f–––ed up. He's a bodybuilder. He should know what steroids do what. I have been using steroids for years and nothing has happened.

Don't go blowing smoke trying to scare and threaten people. Everyone has the choice to juice up but it's your responsibility as a parent to keep substances away from your son. I am your son's age and if I wanted to get a month's supply of Deca, give me 10 minutes on the phone. If you want to see a 17 year old get taught a lesson by his old man about taking roids, give me a couple seconds after I get the stuff. This is the same bulls--- that got everyone "panicky" over ephedrine and other thermogenics when those little 15 yr. old girls were taking full dosages of Ripped Fuel. Mom and Dad didn't have a clue of what their kids were doing so one of them died. I don't juice up, but I also don't go blaming the manufactures for all the side effect freak shows I've seen.

I think this woman has a lack of knowledge on the situation with her son's problem. If he is drinking alcohol and taking steroids, he has a bigger problem then she is willing to face. I know many people who take steroids and are not freaking out. The problem is within the walls of the home and need to be dealt with.

Hey lady, I think you need to do a lot more research because steroids, growth hormones, etc. are only for medical use and there are manufacturers worldwide producing these substances. You were saying that you are going to make sure all these companies were put out of business. I don't think so woman! It's not the company's problem if your son obtained these substances ILLEGALLY! Because the companies who manufacture steroids clearly state that they are for medical use only and only be prescribed by a medical practitioner and not to be used in sport. Therefore, I can conclude that you will in no way close down any of these businesses.

Yet another rant by someone who can't place the responsibility where it belongs - on the individual (or the parent), but has to blame an outside agency. How pathetic.

By that logic, I guess I should be going after Hostess after seeing how fat my friend got eating Twinkies. Call the food police!

Part of the advantage of living in a free (well, semi-free here in the US) society is the ability to make your own decisions - even bad ones.

I don't see why I have to give up my Friday evening beer just because some idiot can't stop from emptying a liter of vodka, and the same principle holds true with steroids.

I can understand your anger at your son turning out to be something you did not desire or expect. However, as a 40 year old male who had a testosterone deficiency all his life, I can also understand the desire of a young man to be the best that he can be.

You mentioned that: "You males don't need any more testosterone secreted. You don't need any more aggression than human nature already provided you with." I agree mostly, however, in some cases and my case, I didn't have enough. Frankly, since you are not a male, you don't understand what other males can do to you to tease you, put you in your place, criticize your rather weak and feminine looking body, and what stresses psychologically that situation puts you in, and none of it is your fault. In my case, and quite a few other males that I was acquainted with, I think we needed MORE testosterone and the related aggression to learn how to assert ourselves. Just because you see a trend or a stereotype does not mean all males fall into this category.

You also wrote: "Eat a nutritionally balanced diet, workout hard, and accept the limitations of the physique mother nature gave you. Be the best you can be." From a male's standpoint, this actually sounds quite contradictory. I needed steroids from my doctor in my 20s in order that I could even start building a physique! No matter how hard I worked out, I just got skinnier. If I would have just accepted my condition, I couldn't even have fathered the two children that I have now. By using steroids in a controlled and monitored fashion, I have become "the best that I can be." I actually now have muscularity and think like a man. The abuse is what causes the problems, not the substance.

You also wrote: "Stop making the mistake women have made for years, the striving to be something we can not be. Get a life, be a real man." In my case, I needed to take steroids to become a "real man." I cannot change the fact that women, in general, think they have to be something that they are not to please other women and men. I think it's somewhat hypocritical to assert, however, that men should not be allowed to do the same thing if they so choose.

To sum up, I think putting all men into one category and blaming their actions or those of drug companies is not the answer to the problem. The answer lies in addressing the underlying psychology of your son, of why he felt he needed to do this, and your own tendency to want to control or correct the situation for him. This is just one man's (who finally feels like a man because of steroids) opinion.

I'm not going to bash you or disrespect you as some others on this site have done, Ma'am, but I would like to offer this bit of feedback:

Considering your medical background, it would seem that you would educate yourself on this topic, and in turn, educate your son. Alert him to a little tidbit of information that most high school boys elect not to consider when undertaking steroid use of this magnitude: Once subjecting the still maturing adolescent endocrine system to unnatural levels of testosterone, the body's growth platelets close, causing these young men to STAY THE HEIGHT THAT THEY WERE WHEN THEY STARTED EXPOSING THEMSELVES TO THESE COMPOUNDS. I don't know about your experiences, but most guys I know don't want to stop growing at 5'8". This might cause him to discontinue steroid use, or at the very least, stave off making this decision until he is a full-grown adult, at least 22 - 24 years of age. And, who knows, by that time he may have matured enough to make a better informed decision.

Oh, and by the way, Stenox is NOT a Growth Hormone. It is, in fact, the brand name for the drug Halotestin, which is one of THE MOST HARSH steroids in production, the one that is actually responsible for the famous "Roid Rage" reputation that has incorrectly become associated with ALL drugs in the Anabolic/Androgenic Steroid class of pharmaceuticals.

Good luck in your endeavors,
K.
