Bad reaction to Kava

Postby <Sparkle> » May 5 - 1:04pm

I took one pill of the recommended 1 -2 pills up to three times daily, and I developed a severe stomachache, nausea, diarrhea, jitteryness and I passed out four times on the way to the bathroom. The bottle says 15 mg kavalactones, and 500 mg "potency" per caplet. I'm now feeling very dizzy, an hour later, but I'm ok.

Wow! Those are some crazy side effects. I'm no doctor but I suggest you don't take it again. Why did you take it in the first place?

Bad reaction to Kava

Postby Bedrock » May 17 - 11:00am

Jeff, what are you talking about? I'm totally serious ... I'm the one who contacted this site and had them start a forum on Kava.

I take anxiety very personally as I myself suffer from it. Until a couple of weeks ago, Kava was the only relief I had. My doctor just started me on Buspirone (BuSpar) and that seems to be working too.

Honestly, I was kinda joking, but he really shouldn't take Kava with those kinds of reactions.

Bad reaction to Kava

Postby <FireCat> » Jul 6 - 12:39am

I drank some Tension Tamer tea with added kava kava. Two days later, I've been feeling congested. Since I drank the one cup, my throat felt thicker. My voice is a little hoarse from it all. I'm curious if this is possibly an odd side effect, or if I should take some cold medicine?

Bad reaction to Kava

Postby <Hopeful> » Jul 17 - 1:09am

I have been taking Nutrizac, a supplement with a mixture of Kava Kava, St. John's Wart, etc. for five weeks now. It has helped with anxiety and balances out one's moods, but now that Kava Kava has been reported as causing liver damage, I want to get off of it. Plus, I have had an awful stomacheache for a week and the last couple of days have felt like I have had a thick throat. Has anyone else tried this product and if so, what were your side effects? I probably should tamper off of this product, for instance, start by taking only a half of a tablet a day (instead of a whole) for a week or two. Does anyone know if one has to tamper off of these herbs like one does with medicine or how long it takes to get herbs out of one's system? Thanks

You don't have to tamper off, it's not like dangerous meds. You should also know that the attack on kava is probably a conspiracy by the pharmaceutical companies. Zero instances of liver toxicities in the US, Japan, Australia, and all of the world. 12 instances of liver toxicities in Germany and Switzerland. Open your eyes and see the truth. If you look closer; all twelve cases were already taking prescription drugs or had a history of alcoholism, and 1 was already diagnosed with liver disease before even starting kava. I know this sounds rediculous but, open up the August issue of Lets Live magazine and read for yourself. You should also know the reported cases of liver toxicity on prescription anxiety drugs is more then 3000 in the US alone. Consider the alternative.

To the guy, woman that took kava sorry for the reaction, also, bedrock sorry if i misunderstood your sarcasm, sarcasm can be taken the wrong way sometimes but i will say one thing, why are you telling him he shouldn't have taken it with those side effects? how in the hell are you supposed to know what a supplement will do without taking it first? just saying. Anyways with herbs like this to limit side effects like the one mentioned above, take smaller amounts to get your body use to the drug and to see any side effects, go to gnc's bargain area and get a bottle of something really cheap that is in gelatin pill form(the ones with 2 sections, and then empty the contents and put the desired amount of the product in them, that is what i do

Appreciate what's available

Postby Torcher » Jan 5 - 1:08am

Seriously, Kava is as clsoe as yuo can get to pharmaceutical tranquilizers, but it has a tendency to be more honest with you. I have taken kava for a few weeks now, after 2 years of anxiety, and it is the only thing that slows me down enough to pay attention to the world. Kava is a godsend, and mild stomach upset may be a side effect, BUT, listen to all the commercials for the newewst meds on TV and you'll swiftly become convinced that the kava side-effect is not at all bad.

Is Kava Dangerous for the Kidneys

Postby Guest » Apr 8 - 12:32pm

YES USA Today posted an article on the dangers of Kava for the kidneys.

Researchers cited chaparral, comfrey, germander, kava and scullcap, all of which are known or likely causes of liver failure; lobella because of its impact on the heart; and pennyroyal oil because of possible liver, kidney and nerve damage.

Organic, not capsules

Postby realKava » May 21 - 11:16am

People who think they have tried kava before and have not experienced good things are those who take capsules, which contain byproducts, not pure natural kava root.

For the drink of peace, you need the pure form, not the capsule. Try chewing on the bare root, or making a (cold) tea by straining the powder through a cloth and adding a sweetner or rum.

Try the kava from KavaKauai
it is the best available. We mix it with Captain Morgan's® Parrot Bay Cocoanut Rum for the best drink on the planet.
