About 12 years ago I went on a diet and lost about 25 lbs. I ate sensibly and started running 30 min. every day. After losing about 20 lbs, I started taking chromium picolinate because I had read that it aids in weight loss and we all know how hard it is to get those last few pounds off. After a few days on the c.p. my hair started falling out profusely every day. Hair was everywhere on the floor and strands would literally fall onto my arm as I was watching TV or reading. I never made the connection to c.p. and thought it was just because I had lost weight, which can also cause hair loss (although it is typically caused by rapid weight loss or crash dieting, which mine was not). After those last 5 pounds I quit taking the c.p. and my hair eventually grew back although not as thick as before. I'm now trying to drop some weight that I gained over the last year and I started taking c.p. about 2-3 weeks ago. So far, I have only lost 2 lbs. but again, my hair is falling out exactly as it had before. Remembering what had happened 12 years ago, I suspected the c.p. and decided to investigate. I've since found so many claims of hair loss by people who took c.p. that I'm now POSITIVE from my own experience and theirs that it definitely can cause drastic and rapid hair loss almost as soon as you start taking it. I was only taking (before and now) 200mcg/day or 400mcg after a missed day because I sometimes forgot.
I would not recommend c.p. to anyone for any reason. Stick with eating right and exercising to lose weight. The only weight you'll lose with c.p. is off your head.
