Training Question: What Is The Best Way For A 34 Year Old Female To Combine Running And Weight Training To Increase Strength?
I am a 34 year-old female. I was a javelin and hammer thrower at a division 1 school and have a good muscular response to weight-training. I used to lift only one set of everything to failure, lifting total body 3 times a week. I was younger then, but I got very strong, quickly. I had 14 percent body fat, weighed about 145 pounds, and am 5'4''. After college, I continued to eat like a thrower and started to get fat. I began to run for health and have since competed in about 15 marathons. Now I would like to start weight training hard again for strength. I am going to be playing softball this summer, and I don't want to be the "injured old fart." Running is only for health, but any suggestions on how to combine the two? Should I do sets? How would I break the days up into body parts lifting, say, 4 days a week?

You should run, then weight train. It's as easy as that.
